Root to Stem Wine Tours, LLC is owned and operated by Tony V. Johnston, who earned his Ph.D. in grape and wine production in 1995. After 29 years of teaching wine appreciation and wine science and taking college students abroad to learn more about wine, he retired to share his passion with individuals who want to explore and know more about wine, the foods they traditionally accompany, and the cultures in which they are produced. Each tour is led by Dr. Johnston and is a unique and educational experience. Small group tours and educational classes are intimate, significantly personalized, and enriching. The world of wine becons you to journey through it!

Services
Wine/Food/Culture Tours, Wine Appreciation Classes, and Vineyard/Winery Consultation are all available to help you expand your comprehension and enjoyment of wine.
These tours are designed for small groups (no greater than 15 participants), to maintain a high level of intimacy and ease of communication.
Wine is best appreciated when the consumer understands both their own sensory abilities and the wines they taste. These classes range from basic to advanced, and can be custom designed for any audience.
Growing grapes in Tennessee (and the surrounding area) is very different from other areas around the world. As such, anyone wanting to establish a vineyard and/or a winery in this region is well advised to hire a consultant to avoid making very expensive mistakes.
